macOS shows .md files as plain text in Quick Look. With Markko installed, Space in Finder shows the formatted document, in the theme you chose.
1 · Install MarkkoFrom the Mac App Store. Open it once so macOS registers the extension.
2 · Allow the extensionmacOS 15: System Settings ▸ General ▸ Login Items & Extensions ▸ Quick Look. macOS 14: Privacy & Security ▸ Extensions ▸ Quick Look.
3 · Press SpaceSelect a
.md file in Finder, on the Desktop, in Spotlight or in an Open dialog.Space still shows plain text?
Is Quick Look free?
Yes. Quick Look is part of the free download.
Does Quick Look use my theme?
Yes. The preview uses your active appearance profile: theme, fonts and light or dark mode.
Space still shows plain text. What now?
Turn on the extension in System Settings, then select the file again. If the preview is old, run qlmanage -r in Terminal or log out and in.
